My personal finance journey began young. I was the second daughter in my family accepted into an Ivy League college. I didn’t realize until the second semester into my education how bogged down I would be by student loan debt. Going to college seemed to be the path I was supposed to follow.  I had no career in mind and I was in a serious relationship with a military service member. I made the tough decision to take a leave of absence to work and find out what I actually wanted to do with my life.

After figuring out my career path, I decided community college would fit my needs better and save me a lot of money overall. I continued to make very intentional use of credit moving forward and to educate myself on all aspects of money management. Ten years, a marriage, and 3 kids later, I am proud to say we are well on our way to a fully funded retirement and are meeting our lofty financial goals.
