AFCPE is seeking dedicated, strategic professionals to fill open positions on the 2022 AFCPE Board of Directors and the AFCPE Certification Council.

AFCPE Board Members help elevate the association’s mission, lead the growth of our profession, and support the dedicated and compassionate professionals who positively impact the lives of individuals and families worldwide.

We currently have open positions for Practitioner, Military, and University/Education constituents. Applicants should be current AFCPE Members.

AFCPE Board Expertise:

  • Open Practitioner: professionals who provide direct financial counseling/coaching/education to clients (examples: financial counselor, financial coach, financial planner)
  • Open University/Education: professionals who work in education or research (examples: researcher, university professor, cooperative extension agent, financial aid, university counseling center, k-12 educator)
  • Open Military/Government: professionals who work with a government agency or focus professional services for military service members and their families (examples: military personal financial manager, military contractor, government agency)
  • Not Open (Positions Currently Filled) Financial Industry: professionals who work in the financial services sector (examples: bank, credit union, insurance or tax)
  • Not Open (Positions Currently Filled) Service: professionals who work in non-financial service industry (examples: nonprofit/community based organization, social work, marriage and family therapy, Employee Assistance Professional (EAP), healthcare, Human Resources)
  • Not Open (Positions Currently Filled) Ad/Hoc: Fundraising/Development

Criteria:

The AFCPE Nomination Task Force has identified a number of desired attributes that will be part of the selection process for new Board members. Applicants should possess:
  • Demonstrated leadership commitment and involvement with AFCPE.
    • Example includes but is not limited to service on a task force/committees.
    • Prefer having obtained the AFC® and/or FFC® credential, but not necessary.
  • Relevant experience in organizational management.
  • Preferable expertise in marketing, development and fundraising.
  • Time commitment to participate: at minimum 2 face-to-face and 2-3 conference call Board meetings each year. In addition to meetings, Board members will provide an average of 10 hours of work between meetings for various Task Force initiatives and meeting preparation. Board members will serve as liaisons to specific task forces, as assigned by the President, which will require supervision of Chairpersons and providing quarterly reports/updates to the Board.
  • Positive leadership attributes, emotional intelligence, ability to work collaboratively and engage in appropriate debate and discussion when needed, and visionary and strategic drive.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion for Board, Staff, and organization.
  • Career focus within the field of financial counseling or education.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop new and innovative programs within their sphere of influence. Examples include but are not limited to incorporating strategy, leadership, future focus, risk taking and an entrepreneurial spirit.

Please note:

Board service for these positions begins in January 2022. Terms are 3 years.

Board members will be provided a code to receive a 50% discount on Symposium registration, one night complimentary hotel stay (if onsite event), and planned meals on the day of the meeting (if onsite event). All additional expenses will be the responsibility of the Individual. Any additional face-to-face meetings will be funded by AFCPE.

AFCPE Certification Council

The Certification Council is solely responsible for essential decisions related to the development, administration, and ongoing maintenance of the certification programs. The Council ensures that all application and eligibility requirements, examination development and administration, scoring of examinations, renewal requirements, and all certification program policies and procedures are directly related to the purpose of the certification program.

We are seeking one professional to serve on the AFCPE Certification Council. The open spot must be filled by a representative of the non-profit stakeholder constituency.

You are not required to be an AFCPE Member or hold AFC® certification to serve as a constituency member.

  • Career focus within the field of financial counseling, coaching or education
  • Demonstrated leadership commitment and involvement with AFCPE
  • Relevant expertise in the disciplines of organizational management.
  • Availability to participate in, at minimum, 1 face-to-face and 3-5 conference call meetings each year.
  • Positive leadership attributes, emotional intelligence, ability to work collaboratively and engage in appropriate debate and discussion when needed, and visionary and strategic drive.
  • Demonstrated ability of new and innovative programs within their sphere of influence. Examples include, but are not limited to, incorporating strategy, leadership, future focus, risk taking and an entrepreneurial spirit.
