Thank you to everyone who completed the job analysis survey. Job analysis is a critical component of maintaining NCCA accreditation for the AFC® certification and a cornerstone of our certification program. The survey results inform the AFC exam, ensuring that the AFC core competencies remain relevant to your work – allowing you to better serve all individuals and families.

Planning for the future.

It’s been a busy, but exciting, summer for the AFCPE Staff and Board. 2023 is a strategic planning year for the organization. We are focused on laying the ground work for a plan that will inform 2024 and beyond. This work could not be done without the voices of the AFCPE community. Thank you for sharing your insights and feedback with us.

As a remote staff and board, we don’t often get the opportunity to gather together in person outside of the hustle and bustle of the annual Symposium. This June, we were able to bring board and staff together for a retreat – one that included staff team building, strategic planning, and our Q2 board meeting. Diversity, inclusion, equity, access, and awareness were firmly centered in our discussions and space was made for all voices to contribute. Its truly an honor to work alongside and lead such an incredible team, one that embodies the passion and values of our organization.

The strategic planning process will continue through the late summer and early fall, with more to share with our larger community later this year!

Investing in growth.

Please join me in welcoming our newest team member, Valerie Richards! Valerie joined the team in May as our new Education Manager. In her role, she will manage AFCPE’s professional development programming and course development. Valerie shares AFCPE’s passion for helping people reach their goals and enjoy life through personal finance education.

What are you most excited about in your new role? Having a positive impact in the personal finance space through education and mentorship.

Providing resources that matter to you.

As part of our strategic planning survey, we asked our members what they valued most about AFCPE Membership. Here were your top responses:

  • Professional development webinars
  • Virtual discussion board, better known as the AFCPE Member Exchange
  • Monthly virtual meet-ups and coffee chats
  • And of course, the discount on Symposium!

Gathering together as a community. We’ll be together again this fall – and this time, we hope you’ll be there too!

Registration for the 2023 AFCPE Symposium is officially open! It’s time to get jazzed because this year we’re going to #ExperienceAFCPE in New Orleans!

With AFCPE membership now on a calendar year, you can join anytime – gaining access to the great benefits listed above and saving on your registration!

We’ve announced two of our keynote presenters – with many more keynote and breakout sessions to be announced throughout the summer and fall. We’ll be joined by Dr. Matthew Desmond, professor of sociology at Princeton University and author of Evicted and Poverty by America. Desmond’s research focuses on poverty in America, housing insecurity, public policy, and racial inequality. And Dr. Preston Cherry, AFC®, CFT-I, and CFP® will deliver a keynote on using story-telling and story-listening to increase engagement and build trust.

Raising your voice: It builds bridges, bridges gaps, and raises awareness for the #ValueofanAFC

Here are a few of the ways our community is raising their AFCPE voice and making an impact:

  • AFC® Candidate, Rahkim Sabree was featured in the New York Times article, How to Deal With Financial Trauma, discussing how “experiences like economic hardship can distort people’s feelings and behaviors around money:”
  • AFCPE Board Member, Sasha Grabenstetter, AFC® shared the value of financial planners adding AFC professionals to their network in a recent think-piece for eMoney.
  • Ambus Hunter, AFC® shared his personal journey of overcoming gambling addiction and getting out of debt and how he’s helping others do the same.
  • Heath Carelock, AFC® spoke to Go Banking Rates, removing the shame for those who have trouble budgeting, offering relatable advice to get started.

Across research, education, and practice, thank you for all that you are doing to advance financial security for all Americans.

SETTING THE STANDARD,

Rachael DeLeon, Executive Director
