Another year has come and is almost gone. The years seem to fly by and resolutions that were made on January 1 seem so far away. I hope the year has brought you happiness and success, whatever that is to you. I have no doubt each of you has helped someone become more financially stable. Whether they saved a little more money or spent just a little less, you coached and guided with care. Each of us makes a difference and together we are amazing!

This year, I have had the privilege to work with the smartest, most passionate, and motivated individuals, including AFCPE Task Force members, Board of Directors, and staff. Each person brings a unique set of talents and flair to the organization, and together we set The Standard.

It has been a rewarding experience to serve as AFCPE President. Of course, it has been challenging at times as well, but worth every minute because of the mission of this organization and professionals like you. AFCPE professionals have made a difference in the lives of students, service members, and civilians around the world.

I want to take this opportunity to thank a few of our departing Board members:

Past President, Jinhee Kim

Treasurer, Leslie Green-Pimentel

Secretary, Todd Christensen

Director, Mary Bell Carlson

Chairman, Barry Wilkinson

Next year, I will serve as Past President and will be focused on recruiting members for board positions. If you are interested in this important leadership opportunity, please let me know. Jerry Buchko will serve as President. We have worked closely together this year so the transition can be as seamless as possible. During our November board meeting, we will vote on executive committee members. I would like to welcome the new members to the board, who I am confident will be exceptional:

University/Education:

Sandra Huston

Joyce Serido

Private Practice

Lacey Landford

Military/Government

Meredith Lozar

I hope you are looking forward to the 2017 AFCPE Research Symposium, Bridging the Gap: Building a Community of Financial Well-being, in San Diego. We are moving from Derby hats to sun hats! You don’t want to miss the lineup of speakers and breakout sessions this year. We have made a change and scheduled the business meeting on Friday after the awards luncheon and before the last meeting on Diversity, which will be an eye-opening discussion. See you there!
