The Cooperative Extension System: A Force Multiplier for Military Family Readiness
Many DoD Military Family Readiness Professionals are not well-versed in the history or capabilities of Cooperative Extension System in supporting Military Family Readiness efforts (RAND, 2014). Cooperative Extension represents an underleveraged force-multiplier tool to serve families in the military with our practical, applicable education as members of the communities in which they live, work, and play. Cooperative Extension can meet the needs of the military community by sharing its knowledge and bringing about value to build the skills and practices of families in the military. But these capabilities must be fully understood by DoD Military Family Readiness counterparts to be fully and most effectively deployed. This training is specifically targeted to DoD Military Family Readiness professionals and practitioners and provides an overview of Cooperative Extension’s capabilities with accompanying historical and contemporary examples. This training will equip DoD and service branch Military Family Readiness Providers to Recognize, Engage, Ask and Deliver cooperative and collaborative extension expertise across the spectrum of Military Family Readiness programming.
