Michael Thomas

Dr. Michael Thomas serves as a lecturer in the Department of Financial Planning, Housing, and Consumer Economics at the University of Georgia. He teaches Introduction to Personal Finance to 2,000 undergraduate students each academic year. Dr. Thomas’ current research focuses on the factors influencing financial well-being across socioeconomic status, empathy and financial well-being, and how data visualization influences financial behaviors. He has created financial capability programs for kids and adults: Money Dawgs and Discovering Money Solutions. He currently serves on the board of The Ark – an organization that provides targeted financial assistance to low-income households. Dr. Thomas is grateful for how he has been able to serve UGA, his students, and the community. But his real passion revolves around the time he has able to spend with his family and closest friends.
