Homeownership has long been accepted as a core component of the American dream, as it provides many benefits for U.S. households. For example, homeownership can provide stability for families and anchor them in their communities. It can also be a tool for wealth creation and for building a legacy of generational wealth—especially in communities of color. However, despite most Americans aspiring to homeownership, many face numerous hurdles, such as difficulties in putting together a sufficient downpayment, crippling levels of student loan debt, and the inability to access credit.

Beginning on July 12, Consumer Action will host a series of four free webinars on the homeownership wealth creation connection. The series will focus on ways to build wealth and gain security through homeownership—and how consumers can overcome some of the barriers to successful homeownership.

The presentation on Tuesday, July 12, will feature speakers Kristin Wong, a financial analyst on the mortgage team at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), and Carl Windom, an accredited financial counselor and financial coach serving as a Freddie Mac consultant.
