Each year, rather than setting a traditional New Year’s resolution, I choose a word or phrase to serve as an anchor. As I step into my role as President of the Board for this year, I’ve spent time reflecting on what word best captures the heart and spirit of AFCPE.
What stood out most to me was you – our AFCPE community.
As a member of the AFCPE community, I have the privilege of learning alongside individuals from diverse walks of life, identities, and lived experiences. We come from academia, private practice, nonprofit service, military settings, accessibility work, and beyond.
Each of us brings a unique story, background, and professional journey. And yet, despite our differences, we have all arrived at the same place: the AFCPE community.
That is why my word for 2026 is community.
What we have built together is something truly special – a collective of individuals committed to a future where everyone has equitable access to high-quality financial counseling, coaching, and education, and the opportunity to achieve lasting financial well-being.
As we step into a new year, I encourage you to take advantage of this incredible community.
Become a member if you aren’t already. The robust calendar of educational offerings provides opportunities to enrich your learning all year round.
Engage in our message boards to share ideas or seek advice.
Listen to the AFCPE podcast to expand your network, your ideas, and your impact.
Lend your talents to a task force.
And, of course, share the value of AFC certification with your organization or your peers.
Lean into this network – because this is a community where you belong.
