Tuesday, November 18 – 9:00am – 12:00pm MT (3 CEUs for AFC certified professionals)

Today’s students face a complex web of financial challenges that go far beyond tuition. Using insights from Trellis Strategies’ Student Financial Wellness Survey, this session offers a deep dive into the realities of student finances, including the critical roles employment, caregiving responsibilities, and financial insecurity play in students’ academic success and persistence.

Participants will gain a richer understanding of how financial stress impacts college completion, and how institutions can proactively support modern learners through intentional, data-informed strategies. The session will highlight how public benefits—such as SNAP, Medicaid, and housing assistance—can be powerful tools in a student support toolkit when integrated thoughtfully into campus ecosystems.

In addition, attendees will learn practical methods for leveraging FAFSA data to identify students who may qualify for public benefits, facilitating connections to the resources they need to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.

Join us to explore how cross-sector collaboration, informed by real student experiences and survey data, can help build a more equitable and supportive learning environment.

Continental Breakfast is included.

Join us for an opportunity to participate in a live book study event. Book study as an educational program won AFCPE Outstanding Education Program of the year in 2021.

Book Study – The Psychology of Money, by Morgan Housel – OR – The Soul of Wealth, by Daniel Crosby

About the course:

In a book study we attempt to keep the reading to 6 pages a day. That means that in 42 days you can read this book and complete the digital workbook to prepare for the in-person experience. After registration, you will be asked your book choice, then sent the digital workbook. You can print it out or complete it on your device to bring it with you to the pre-symposium book study.

During the pre-symposium event you will be participating in discussions with small groups. Our discussions will be focused on behavior change in personal finance matters as individuals as well as with clients and the community we support. These groups will change for each of the sections of the book, giving you the opportunity to interact with many participants from different fields of work in personal finance. You will have discussion questions provided in the workbook that each group will discuss for each section of the book. Upon completion of discussions during the pre-symposium event, you will be given a course that you can provide to consumers, students, friends, family, and others in your community. There will be options describing how you can implement a program that works with your community. This way you can tailor it to your style, facility, and timeline.

Please arrange for breakfast on your own prior to arrival.

Tuesday, November 18 – 9:00am MT – 12:00pm MT (*3 CEUs for AFC certified professionals. 3 CEs for CFP Board certified professionals. AFC Candidates obtain 3 experience hours)

When we’re in the work, we don’t always get the chance to pause and reflect on how we show up,  with clients, with ourselves, and with each other. The Financial Coaching CoLaboratory: Peer Practice with Real Cases is a space to do just that. This 3-hour experiential session is designed for financial professionals  who want to deepen their skills through real-time practice, reflection, and community learning.

Participants will bring anonymized client challenges to the room and work through them together in rotating roles: coach, client, and observer. We will look at what is actually happening in our sessions, including where values and spending don’t align, how trauma shows up in conversations about money, through an ethical lens and how to maintain an appropriate scope of practice  in emotionally charged or complex situations.

This is a facilitated peer learning environment where we practice together, notice what comes up, and explore how to respond with integrity. Participants will leave with greater clarity, confidence, and ethical grounding in their coaching work.

Coffee, tea, and water will be available.

Please arrange for breakfast on your own prior to arriving.
