Position Description
Are you an AFC® candidate looking to gain valuable experience hours toward your accreditation? America Saves and Veteran Saves are seeking dedicated volunteers to support our mission of empowering individuals and families to build financial security through education, guidance, and savings-focused initiatives.

This unpaid volunteer position provides hands-on experience in one-on-one financial counseling, teaching financial education, and curriculum development—helping you fulfill AFC® certification requirements while making a real impact.

Roles/Responsibilities

  • Develop Financial Education Content – Assist in creating curriculum, worksheets, blog posts, and other educational materials to be used in America Saves and Veteran Saves programs.
  • Teach Financial Education Classes/Workshops – Take part in financial literacy workshops (live or recorded) on topics like budgeting, credit management, debt reduction, and saving strategies.
  • One-on-One Counseling – Provide virtual financial counseling to individuals, assisting them in setting savings goals, managing debt, and improving financial confidence.

Time Commitment/Availability
The time commitment for this volunteer role is flexible and will depend on current projects, program needs, and your availability. Volunteers can expect to dedicate time to content development, financial education, and one-on-one counseling as needed. We understand that schedules vary, and we’re happy to discuss a commitment that works for both you and the program. Whether you can contribute a few hours a month or take on a more regular role, your support will make a meaningful impact!

✔ Individuals passionate about financial literacy and empowerment.
✔ Strong communicators comfortable with virtual education and counseling.
✔ Self-motivated volunteers who can work independently and collaborate with our team.

Preferred Qualifications
We are seeking Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC®) candidates who are working toward their certification and seeking experience hours. Ideal candidates will have:

✔ Enrollment in or completion of the AFC® certification program
✔ A passion for financial education, coaching, and advocacy
✔ Strong communication and presentation skills for workshops and counseling sessions
✔ Experience or interest in teaching financial literacy topics to diverse audiences
✔ Ability to develop educational materials and curriculum tailored to different financial needs
✔ A commitment to helping individuals and families build financial confidence

While this is an unpaid, volunteer position, it provides valuable hands-on experience in financial counseling, education, and outreach through nationally recognized programs like America Saves and Veteran Saves.

How to Submit Experience Hours:
Experience may be submitted in the “Counseling & Coaching”, “Teaching” or “Develop Content” categories with the Experience Verification Form as supporting documentation. Experience completed under the supervision of an AFC can be reported as 1.5 hours for every 1 hour of experience for certain categories. Please see “AFC Supervised Experience” in the Experience Guide for more details.
