The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics has reported that the cost to access energy has increased by 30% in the last year. Low-income households are spending a more significant portion of their income on home energy, including in California, where 11% of these households spend over a third of their income on utilities.
To help reduce the energy burden impacting so many families and often placing them at risk of utility shutoffs, Consumer Action is partnering with PG&E to increase awareness of and enrollment in programs that lower the cost of energy.
