Al graduated with a B.S. degree in International Finance from Brigham Young University. He has worked over 26 years in the mortgage industry and is employed by Academy Mortgage. In 2011, he released his second publication of The Road to 850 which is a complete outline of the FICO® scoring system.
Starting in 2003, Al Bingham led a research team in the credit industry who studied FICO® credit scores. Their findings from their three-year study have been recognized nationwide for its valued insight into the FICO® credit score. Through these discoveries, Al has had the opportunity to provide commentary on credit and credit scores in over 200 news stories throughout the country. He continues to provide commentary for many national media outlets including CNBC, US News, and World Report, Fortune Magazine along with a host of other national and regional media.
In 2012, Al worked with state legislators to craft legislation that would require the credit bureaus to allow more disclosure to consumers. This proposed legislation would have allowed consumers to know their actual FICO credit scores. Working with multiple representatives and credit counselors, this proposed legislation was the start of a multi-year effort that changed the rules to allow greater transparency of credit report and scores to consumers – largely in part to the efforts of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
