SUMMARY:Financial Social Work Certificate Program (Mar-Oct)
DESCRIPTION:UMSSW’s Financial Social Work Initiative (FSWI) is launching its next online version of the Financial Social Work (FSW) Certificate Program through UMSSW’s Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Office in March 2023! It will meet an identified need for greater financial capability and empowerment knowledge on the part of social workers who practice in non-profit and other social service agencies\, as well as in schools\, medical settings\, and justice and court settings\, and beyond. The FSW Certificate Program will run over multiple sessions from March 2023 to September 2023. Participants must take all the sessions to complete the course. The online formatting design of the FSW Certificate Program will enable rich class discussion and learning through interaction among the macro and clinical practitioners from across the nation. Besides key educators\, the program will feature guest speakers from this important\, emerging area. \nProgram consists of three-course sections- 14 CEUs per section. \nThe FSW Certificate Program is offered typically March-October. SUMMARY:Helping Older LGBTQ+ Americans Navigate Retirement
DESCRIPTION:According to a recent Gallup poll\, the percentage of U.S. adults who self-identify as LGBTQ+ has doubled since 2012\, rising to 7.1%. SAGE\, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of LGBTQ+ older people\, found that 51% of LGBTQ+ elders are worried they won’t have enough money as they age\, compared to 36% of the general population. This elevated level of financial insecurity can be attributed to several factors\, including public health epidemics and decades of discrimination. In this webinar\, CFP Board Ambassador\, Laura J. LaTourette\, CFP®\, will dive into recent LGBTQ+ retirement trends\, the impact of the HIV/AIDS crisis as well as other factors on retirement\, and the retirement concerns facing low- to moderate-income LGBTQ+ elders. By the end of the webinar\, professional volunteers will learn how to become an ally and advocate for their LGBTQ+ clients during and beyond pro bono engagements.

DESCRIPTION:Although younger\, digital savvy consumers may be adept at using the internet\, TIME reported that Generation Z is more than three times as likely as Baby Boomers to fall for online scams. Part of the reason for this\, the news report explained\, is that many scams target members of the younger generation because a large proportion of them spend hours a day on social media.
