SUMMARY:Professionalizing the Field of Financial Counseling and Coaching: Why Certification Matters
DESCRIPTION:Training Purpose:\n1. To provide an overview of the mission of professional financial counseling.\n2. To provide insight into building an integrated and inclusive financial continuum of care. \nBy the end of the training\, you will be able to:\n1. Explain why financial counseling certification matters.\n2. Identify the certification options available through AFCPE.\n3. Explain the certification pathways and cost.\n4. Ability to navigate the Accredited Financial Counselor career path. \nWhy you should attend:  \nCreating client economic mobility requires financial skills that focus on the multi-faceted needs that many Americans are facing today.  Client interaction requires knowledge of public benefits\, resources\, and safety nets\, as well as an understanding of credit\, debt\, and health issues.  With household savings at critically low levels\, there lacks the resiliency to weather the financial storms that result from living pay check-to-pay check. \nCertification provides the baseline or starting point for demonstrating financial proficiency and ensure that practitioners in the field stay current. \nPresenters:  \nJarod Taylor has been working in financial education and counseling for over a decade. His experience comes largely from the non-profit sector\, working with social service organizations on first-time homeownership\, financial education\, credit counseling\, and asset building. Before joining the team at AFCPE\, Jarod managed a free income tax clinic that operated year-round\, serving hundreds in central Ohio. He is still active in the VITA program in his community\, and is a self-described “tax nerd.” As the Certification Manager at AFCPE\, Jarod supports candidates as they navigate the AFC. \nSummer Red is a seasoned financial educator providing classroom instruction to a wide range of audiences and income levels\, including professional development workshops for Native American and nonprofit counselors seeking certification. In her role at AFCPE\, she is supporting AFCPE certified professionals through continuing education opportunities as well as managing development of AFCPE’s new line of subject-specific Essentials classes. She is passionate about providing high quality\, audience-specific\, deeply compelling educational opportunities that will help inspire others to improve their financial wellness.
