Do Reverse Mortgages SCARE You?
1.0 CEU for AFCPE® certified professionals.
Ever wonder how reverse mortgages work? And which of your clients may benefit from one?
Leading retirement researchers, like Wade Pfau from the American College, have concluded that today's reverse mortgage can improve a client's retirement income efficiency, retirement sustainability, and their legacy.
This presentation will share the pros and cons of reverse mortgages and review four (4) common uses of reverse mortgages, including strategies for managing long-term care risk. Using financial planning software that incorporates Monte Carlo scenarios, attendees will review demonstrations on how HECM’s (High Equity Conversion Mortgages) can provide solutions to long term care, cash flow during long term care events, and mitigate the risk of policy lapses associated with increased premiums or decreases in income from the death of a spouse.
Upon completion of the program, you will be able to advise clients when it is suitable to consider a reverse mortgage. You will also be able to:
(1) Educate older clients on the basics of the FHA insured reverse mortgage and also clearly present the pros and cons of FHA-insured reverse mortgages.
(2) Understand how incorporating a HECM into a financial plan will affect client outcomes.
(3) Explain to clients the various uses of a reverse mortgage, i.e. line of credit, tenure payments, refinancing existing mortgage, and purchasing a new home.
(4) Identify what strategies should be avoided and what should be considered depending on client case.
