Dr. Dora Mays is the Chief (Director) of the Military & Family Readiness Center at MacDill AFB in Tampa, Florida. She supervises 26 staff and directs the day to day operation of the social services organization that provides services to actively serving, retirees, guard/reserve military members, federal civilian employees, and their families. Dora has also been the Core Compliance Expert for both Personal & Work Life and Personal Financial Management Programs. She currently sits on the Executive Board of Directors for AFCPE representing the Military/Government constituency. She has been a member of AFCPE since 1998 and received her Accredited Financial Counselor® (AFC®) designation in 1999. She has served the organization in many capacities, from reviewing/scoring applications for the Military Spouse Fellowship Program, conducting surveys and provided feedback on trends and special circumstances facing military members and their families in support of legislative change, to leading task forces within the organization. She has also been a presenter for Military Pre-Conferences and Practitioner Forums during Symposium.
Dora holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Human Services (Marriage and Family Services), a Master of Science in Educational Leadership, and a Bachelor of Behavioral Science in Criminal Justice. She possesses several certifications related to personal finance, crisis and trauma, marriage and family, and is a Certified Florida Supreme Court Family Mediator. She volunteers her time to several community organizations, including being a member on the Diversity Advisory Council for Moffitt Cancer Research Institution in Tampa, Florida. Additionally, Dr. Mays is the founder and CEO of AMaysing Services, Inc. She partners with her retired Air Force husband to fulfill the mission of providing a full spectrum of counseling and self-help services to individuals, couples, and families.
