Brenda Vaughn is a K-12 Outreach Representative at the Georgia Student Finance Commission (GSFC). In this role, she ensures students and their families in the 22 counties around the Athens area are aware of the various state and federal student aid programs available. Brenda has been in the financial aid industry for 17 years. Before joining GSFC, she worked at the University of Georgia as a loan counselor, and was the Director of Financial Literacy with the National Student Loan Program (NSLP). Brenda’s financial aid experience also includes the implementation of the Student Financial Aid Program for Texas Guaranteed (TG). The program received two national awards – the Association for Financial Counseling and Planning Education’s (AFCPE) 2013 Outstanding Educational Program and Reader’s Top Choice Product for 2014 by University Business magazine.
Brenda holds a bachelor’s degree in middle school education and a master’s degree in adult education with a Certificate in Nonprofit organizations from UGA. She became an Accredited Financial Counselor® (AFC®) in 2006 through AFCPE. Since then, Brenda has been an active member of AFCPE, reviewing scholarships for the Military Spouse Fellowship and serving on various committees. She chaired the 2012 Conference Committee, currently serves on the Board of Directors, and is serving as Past-President in 2018.
